Being creative isn’t for the faint-hearted, that’s why bravery is a prerequisite.
You have to be brave if you’re creative. Brave enough to express yourself, to step out of line, to do things differently, to face the challenges of conformity and still believe in your truth – in your originality.
Like most things worthwhile, my chosen career in advertising was an odyssey. But one that gifted me the advantage of winning awards and working with, and learning from, some of the finest creative minds in the industry. I will always be indebted to these men and women for the invaluable lessons learnt; the ones that continue to serve me to this day.
I’ve always loved the agency dynamic. The insanity, the passion, the creative expression – it’s all the things that reflect who I am. The kindred souls who encouraged me to fly and shared my mad creativity will always be a source of inspiration to me.
Owning and running your own agency is unrelenting. So being creative remains your constant precisely because you need to dig deep and persist. You need to keep working alongside clients, understanding their brands, their needs and finding creative solutions to those needs. It’s a never-ending challenge I love. It’s a very important part of my life. I must love what I do, I’ve been doing it for over thirty years.
Even when I’m not working, being creative means I’m constantly finding ways to channel my creativity, so I take photographs. I paint. Both are great sources of exploring the very essence of my creativity, helping me catapult my imagination to a higher dimension. Bravely going where I’ve never gone before.
Life is too short for anything less.
